Whirlwind Celebrity Marriage -
Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney
Actress Renee Zellweger and
country music star Kenny Chesney
were married on Monday May 9th
on the Caribbean island of St.
John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
It was a small 15-minute ceremony,
just close friends and family.
Rene wore a dress designed by
Carolina Herera. Zellweger,
36, and Chesney, 37, met at
the Concert of Hope tsunami
relief event on January 15th.
The wedding reception was held
Monday night in the gated community
of Peter Bay at Chesney's house.
There was an outdoor buffet
and light music playing.
Renee and Kenny had only been
dating for about four months,
after meeting at a tsunami benefit
in mid-January. They first met
at the Concert of Hope tsunami
relief benefit Jan. 15, where
Chesney was singing and Zellweger
was answering telephones. Renee
had recently ended her two-year
relationship with Jack White
and was reported to still be
struggling over the breakup
as late as February. However,
Kenny Chesney has supposedly
had a crush on the "Bridget
Jones's Diary" star for
years and was inspired to write
his 1999 hit "You Had Me
From Hello" after seeing
her in "Jerry Maguire."
It came as a surprise to all
of Hollywood when they married,
but shocked few when they split
up. After only four months of
marriage, they called it quits,
citing "fraud" as
the reason for the annulment.
The term was “simply legal
language and not a refection
of Kenny’s character,”
Zellweger said in a statement
afterwards.
“I would personally be
very grateful for your support
in refraining from drawing derogatory,
hurtful, sensationalized or
untrue conclusions,” she
said. “We hope to experience
this transition as privately
as possible.”
Chesney also released a statement:
“This is an incredibly
sad time. ... I just hope everyone
can respect the privacy that
I know Renee has already asked
for.”
