Anticipated Wedding - Liz Hurley
and Arun Nayar Elizabeth
Hurley married an Indian businessman
in a private civil ceremony
at a 15th-century castle on
March 5, 2007. Numerous photographers
and spectators set off for quiet
town of Winchcombe in western
England to catch a glimpse of
their lavish wedding party.
Gloucestershire County Council
confirmed that the actress-model
and Arun Nayar married on Friday
at Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe,
located 200 kilometres west
of London.
The pair held a benediction
and celebration at the castle
on Saturday evening. The small
town of nearby Winchcombe had
been caught in the grip of wedding
fever, as celebrities travelled
to Gloucestershire for the event.
Rows of shops in the town's
high street put out signs and
blew up balloons to wish the
newlyweds well.
The list of guests included
Sir Elton John, Kate Moss, Elle
Macpherson and Hurley's former
lover, Hugh Grant. Sir Elton
made a spectacular entrance
at the wedding as he descended
into the beautiful grounds of
Sudeley Castle in a purple helicopter.
Photographers raced down country
lanes and climbed on fences
in an attempt to catch a glimpse
of the entertainer, who had
arrived in a casual blue tracksuit
with white stripes. His partner,
David Furnish, entered by car
as did other celebrities, including
Patsy Kensit and Tracey Emin.
The best man was Mr Nayar's
younger brother Nikhil and the
ring bearer was Damian, Hurley's
four-year-old son by the wealthy
film executive Steve Bing.
"Both bride and groom were
looking stunning. It was a very
happy occasion and I am delighted
to have been involved in their
wedding celebration," the
Reverend John Partington, who
conducted the celebration service.
One guest said: "I was
very touched to see how fond
Damian was of Arun. They really
do seem to be a happy family."
The couple will decamp to the
city of Jodhpur, Rajasthan,
on Wednesday for more receptions,
culminating in a traditional
Indian wedding at the 15th-century
Meherangarh Fort.
Media access is restricted because
the couple have sold the coverage
rights to Hello! magazine. The
highlight of the Bombay festivities
is expected to be a haldi reception
thrown by Parmeshwar Godrej,
the wife of Adi Godrej, who
is one of the richest Indian
tycoons and an old friend of
the Nayars.
